Lakers and the NBA

Getty Images

Congratulations to the LA Lakers for their fifth championship in 11 years. It is also Kobe Bryant’s fifth and Phil Jackson’s eleventh ring.

Game 7 was the first game that I actually watched from the series. I saw ESPN, Twitter and Facebook comments to keep me up to date, but no actual live viewing. Game 7 was an horrible game. Both teams played horrible, though I give credit to Boston for their defensive intensity and LA for their rebounding and second chance points. The officiating was beyond terrible, it was embarrasing. They should had let them play street ball and call their own infractions and fouls; who knows, we may had seen Ron Artest get into a fight with someone. Horrible officiating and from what I’ve read, it was the same for the rest of the series.

For anyone that follows my social network updates, I dislike both teams, but I dislike Boston more, that was my main reason in rooting for the Lakers. I also enjoy watching Kobe going to work. I wanted new teams, I wanted Orlando vs Phoenix. That would’ve been a high scoring, fast paced series, extremely fun to watch, but the NBA wanted the two biggest markets, the biggest rivalry in the NBA to meet once more. And when I say that the NBA wanted them to meet, I mean officiate the games in their favor.

Going back to Ron Artest, the dude is crazy! He thanked his psychiatrist for helping him win the championship! His psychiatrist didn’t help him be such key for the game 7 victory. he made big buckets and grabbed big rebounds. Good for him! Below is one of the funniest things that I have seen happen in the NBA, his press conference.

To the Kobe haters; yes, Kobe will never be Michael Jordan, in fact, no one will be MJ, MJ will be MJ. Kobe will be Kobe and he is the poster player for the upcoming generation. I argued 10 years ago, when I was in high school, that he was going to be the next big player. He is definitely showing it at the court. A lot of people hate him because of his personality, but I have to say if you hate him because of that, you also need to hate MJ. If you don’t believe me watch his Hall Of Fame speech (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3). To clarify, I am not hating on Jordan, he was a GREAT player, that made the players around him also shine. Bryant does the same thing, and I hope more people recognize that, instead of spending energies on hating him and saying that he will never be like another player.

I want to briefly touch on Rajon Rondo. He is going to be much better in the upcoming years. I love the way he plays. LA couldn’t stop him, he is great at both ends of the floor. Keep an eye on him, if he gets traded I might become a fan of him.

Next season, I don’t expect the Lakers to win again. I’m expecting drastic changes around the league that the top teams in the past years (LA, Orlando, Boston, Cleveland) will have a tough challenge to repeat their same records next season. Cleveland is an isolated case, if Lebron leaves they will struggle to even be in the top 8. The big question is where is he going to end. My wish is the Heat but there is a slim chance for that to happen. Either Chris Bosh or Carlos Boozer might be wearing Heat uniform. I see Lebron either in Dallas or NY.

A top rookie class is going to enter the NBA. Young blood is going to make the NBA exciting to watch again. Durant, D Williams, CP3, DWade, LBJ, Brandon Jennings are a few to mention that they will be fun to watch do at what they do best.

See ya all in November!

[Draft] HTML5 and Flash

Going through my old drafts, I found this gem that never saw the light of day. I think I got too busy to finish it but reading it now, it still feels relevant. Enjoy!

The web development and we design communities have been on an ongoing argument and discussion of which will rule all. Both of them will rule the future of web development.

The argument caught real heat at the announcement of the upcoming Apple iPad won’t support Flash. This is all because the Flash plugin kills a source of income for apple, which is the iTunes store. I’m talking about movies, music and games.

- where flash has it’s weaknesses, HTML has it’s strengths and viceversa.

Flash
- flash evolves faster while HTML doesn’t
- flash has a bright future in mobile devices. It has slowed down thanks to the lack of support on the iPhone.
- you only do it once when done and not worry how it will work on multiple browsers while in flash
- flash is the best multimedia player because brings format uniformity

HTML
- standards has great community support.
- great for large amounts of content
- faster turnaround
- mostly open source (non-compiled)
- out of the box seo

Things To Look Forward In 2009

Movies

Watchmen

Last September, I finished reading the graphic novel, I was amazed of how well the story is told, how they narrated different timelines and made sense into the main timeline. I really hope they accomplish this on the movie. I would like to see how much of the novel they translate into the movie. I trust Zack Snyder in doing an amazing job.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
