Best Albums of 2011

10. Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie XX – We’re New Here

This album is a great listen. The chilling narrative of Gil Scott-Heron and the subtle touch of Jamie XX made it worth listening it again.

09. Bon Iver – Bon Iver

Mellow, beautiful, same as its previous albums but that’s not a bad thing.

08. The Roots – Undun

I wish I could have listened more, The Roots keep proving that they are one of the best bands out there.

07. Big K.R.I.T. – Return Of 4Eva

Re-incarnation of Pimp C. Best mixtape in the past 3 years. Great potential from the man from ATL.

06. The Weeknd – House of Balloons

This album is the combination of an R&B voice with a chilled out instrumentals. Talent went quickly recognized when Drake collaborated with him.

05. Cliff Martinez & Various Artists – Drive OST

Follows the same formula of the Social Network soundtrack. Ambient, noises, airy, elegant, intense. You can enjoy this album even if you haven’t seen the movie, but I highly recommend watching the movie.

04. Blue Sky Black Death – Noir

Underrated album, this has been the most beautiful album that they have put together.

03. M83 – Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming

Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is a beautifully well put together album from start to finish.

02. Jay-Z & Kanye West – Watch The Throne

That shit cray. Hip-Hop biggest names get together to let who are in the Throne. Very enjoyable album.

01. SBTRKT – SBTRKT

This is album that I can still listen from start to finish. Great drums, great synths, great vocals by Sampha, Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon) and Roses Gabor. Best album of the year without a doubt.

AskOmar’s Best Albums of 2010

It’s that time again to list my top 10 albums of 2010. I tried my best not to make 9 of my picks a dubstep album. Without further ado, I present to you my top 10 albums of 2010.
*Spoiler Alert! Arcade Fire didn’t make my list

10. Flying Lotus – Cosmogramma

This is Fly Lo’s best work so far. This is an album that I listened too much. If you like beautiful weird sounds, this is an album you should listen.

9. Big Boi – Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

The long awaited solo album by one half of OutKast didn’t disappoint. Catchy tunes and great beats makes this album good.

8. Tanlines – Settings

This is not technically and album, but I have some obsession to Balearic sounding music. This album fulfilled my crave to this rhythm. Tanlines released a full album Dec 7, which I haven’t given a listen, but I’m pretty sure I will like it.

7. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross – The Social Network OST

IMO, this has been a somewhat underrated soundtrack album. Trent Reznor made a full soundtrack sounding “different but familiar”. The music fit perfectly with the mood of the movie, but the soundtrack is great by its own.

6. The Roots – How I Got Over

I was extremely excited when I found the news that one of my favorite bands, was joining Jimmy Fallon for his late night show. I was worried that they wouldn’t release anything after joining the show. They did, and they put together a great album.

5. Toro Y Moi – Causers Of This

I listened to this album in 2009. It would’ve made the 2009 list. This album put the Chillwave genre on the map. This albums hits the spot.

4. Mount Kimbie – Crooks and Lovers

Ambient chill, dubstep album you say? Yes, and a good one. Mount Kimbie put together a ver nice sounding album that brings new listeners to the genre. If you like Burial, you will like Mount Kimbie.

3. Calle 13 – Entren Los Que Quieran

Good album from Calle 13. It is a greatly produced album, with great musical fusions and controversial lyrics. Even if you don’t understand Spanish, I recommend you give a listen to this album.

2. Skream – Inside The Box

This album is not a favorite within “dubstep purists”, but you can’t treat this album as a dubstep genre album… at least at first. This album defines when dubstep matured. I can listen this album from start to finish any time. If you don’t like dubstep, listen to this album, you can say you like some dubstep.

1. Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

From the most hated man, to one of the greatest albums in less than a year. This album is just a masterpiece, to give him more ego, though he will never read this, Kanye has demonstrated that he is a genius. This album is one of the bests albums in history, is that good. The quality production of all songs are unbelievably high. All Of The Lights and Lost In The World have such amazing energy, a very addicting energy. The featured artists on this album gives the extra unique touch to this album. Regarding features, watch out for CyHi Da Prynce. Check this album even if you hate Kanye.
